Write for us
We welcome pitches that make rural life easier to understand through a precise question, a well-defined subject and careful explanation. Send proposals through the Contact page; unsolicited full drafts are not required.
What we welcome
Pitch evergreen pieces on rural landscapes, customs, crafts, place names or household practices. A useful proposal explains one subject in a way that serves general readers, acknowledges local variation and avoids treating personal impressions as universal evidence.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the working title, central question, likely structure and why the subject merits an article. Include the kinds of sources or examples you would use, and disclose any relevant commercial or personal interests. Keep the scope manageable and explain what readers will understand by the end.
Our standards
Contributions must be original, accurate and clearly written. We do not accept fabricated experience, unattributed borrowed work or claims presented with more certainty than the material supports. We may edit accepted work for clarity, length and house style; publication is not guaranteed.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page and select the editorial option. Include your pitch in the message field. Please do not send sensitive personal information or assume that a proposal has been accepted until we respond.
Country life deserves a closer reading
Rural places are not a single story. We look at their details with curiosity, distinguish observation from assumption and leave room for regional difference.
